We are looking for people aged 18 to 25 who are not in education, employment or training (or who have not been in education, employment or training sometime in the last 12 months) to join a paid advisory group.
The group is being run by the Brotherhood of St Laurence (BSL) together with the Economic Inclusion Advisory Committee (EIAC) and the Department of Social Services (DSS). The aim is to help government better understand young people's experiences and ideas about accessing education, training and employment, using government services like Centrelink and employment services, and financial wellbeing.
What would I do?
Take part in online group discussions (via Microsoft Teams) with other young people, EIAC members and senior government representatives.
Share your experiences and ideas for change.
Give feedback on ideas being considered by EIAC.
What is involved?
Online meetings on Microsoft Teams every 4 to 6 weeks over approximately 6 to 12 months.
Meetings will run during weekday daytime hours.
Most sessions are around 2.5 hours long, including a break.
Will I be paid?
Yes. Participants receive honorarium payments of:
$150 for the opening session (1.5 hours)
$300 for each main advisory group session (2.5 hours)
$150 for the closing session (1.5 hours)
More than this, we hope that being part of the group is a positive experience where you feel like you’ve been able to inform government on how to make things better for young people.
Who can apply?
You may be eligible if you:
Are aged 18 to 25
Are not currently in education, employment or training, or have not been in education, employment or training within the last 12 months
Are interested in sharing your experiences and helping improve support for young people
Feel comfortable participating in online discussions with government representatives and EIAC members (we provide lots of support to help with this!)
Support and Safety
We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive and respectful environment for all participants, and provide a lot of support to participants before and after each session. It is important to know that participation is voluntary and you can leave the group at any time.
How will my information be used
Information from the sessions will be used to write a report for EIAC based on the group discussions. We will provide you with more information about this.
